Givenchy’s Very Fierce Spring / Summer 2010 Gladiator Sandals for Men

Friday, February 12th, 2010

We’ve seen all styles, colors, and heel heights of women’s gladiator sandals that it’s almost passé, but get a load of these men’s gladiator sandals, fresh off the runway:

This is a picture of fashion editor and stylist Panos Yiapanis in Givenchy Spring/Summer 2010 gladiator sandals as taken by the now famous Tommy Ton of the Jak & Jil Blog. He’s out and ready for battle. These men’s gladiator sandals are seriously armed to the teeth.

Italian designer and head of womenswear Ricardo Tisci took the responsibility of overseeing Givenchy menswear just in May 2008. With this collection, he’s proven that he can work the same magic on menswear like he did for womenswear. Ricardo Tisci continues his winning ways by coming out with influential, visionary, ahead-of-its-times designs, like these uber fierce men’s gladiator sandals.

More pictures of these gladiators and other similar sandals from the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2010 Collection:

If studs, leather and metallics for women’s gladiators are out, then Givenchy declares it’s just the opposite for men.

Check out some of these cutting edge men’s gladiator sandals with studs, lace-ups, and other hardcore embellishments:

Alexander McQueen incorporates lace-ups and cutouts, two 2010 footwear trends in the Alexander McQueen 237885WACC0. $494.00.

These gladiator-inspired thong sandals feature studs on the straps and a contoured footbed. These are the DSQUARED2 SA300971, on sale at $229.78.

Mark Nason’s rock and roll influences are clear on these Mark Nason Krakens. Check out those huge burnished leather crosses on the straps. Now $117.49.

The faded and distressed leather on these Frye Ludlow H Band make them look vintage, but those thick buckles and stud say another thing. Now only $103.00.

A slide version of the previous sandals, the extra buckles, the crisscrossed straps, and the silver and black combination actually make these Frye Men’s Ludlow Slides look more tough than casual. Now 15 percent off.

As a guy, do you think you can rock these fierce gladiator sandals? Pair them with shorts or pants in similar colors to get the full gladiator effect.

4 Fresh Silhouettes for Gladiator Sandals

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Tired of the same ol’ t-straps on gladiators? Have had enough of dealing with so many buckles and straps on sandals? Think gladiator sandals are so last decade?

Then think again. The gladatior sandal continues to be reinvented this 2010, adopting such fashion forward trends like cutouts, motorcycle boots, and even clogs (see it to believe it).

We think the gladiator sandal is fast on its way to becoming a closet mainstay rather than just a trend, especially if it keeps up this chameleon-like change season after season.

Check out these 4 new and fresh silhouettes that the gladiator sandal has taken on for this year:

#1 ANGULAR STRAPS

Guess Shoes Iola

Throwing the t-straps out, the gladiator sandal now shows off its sexy shape. The straps now embrace the foot in such a way that they create flattering – not height-cutting (!) – angles. These Guess Shoes Iola heels in pewter lea are $119.99 at Heels.com.

#2 MOTORCYCLE BOOTS

Ash Lotus Cutout Booties

This shoe actually shows not one but two trends: the motorcycle boot and the extreme wedge. First seen on trendsetters like Mary Kate Olsen and Alexa Chung, the motorcycle wedge will surely be the shoe shape to watch out for this year. The gladiator sandal slips into this new shape with ease. Ash Lotus Cutout Booties are $240.00 at Shopbop.com.

#3 CUTOUTS

Sigerson Morrison Flat Slash Suede Booties

We’ve featured these sandals before in our 2010 trend forecast. And now that it’s 2010, that forecast is now a reality. We’re seeing cutouts in everything from bathing suits to sleeves to the backs of dresses, so why not on gladiator sandals? And judging from these Sigerson Morrison Flat Slash Suede Booties, they look like they were made for each other. The end result is a silhouette that is very now, and we get the strappy look without the actual straps. These sandals are $465.00 at Shopbop.com.

#4 CLOGS

Frye Darcy Peep

The thick leather straps take the place of the rounded toecaps on these clogs, but they are undeniably gladiator-inspired. Clogs are supposedly the dreaded trend to make a comeback this 2010, but if they look as luxurious (and as comfy – they have a cork footbed) as these chunky wooden heels, then maybe it’s not going to be that bad. These Frye Darcy Peep clogs are $218.00 at Zappos.com.

Still think you’ll be sticking with the old gladiator sandals or will you be willing to try out these fresh, new silhouettes? Try ‘em out for size – you never know, you might end up liking them!

Trivia Question: Which Gossip Girl Celebrity Wears More Gladiator Sandals Off-screen – Blake Lively or Leighton Meester?

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Interesting question, don’t you think? Can you guess who it is? Well the answer is…. Leighton Meester!

Yes people, she has been seen in gladiator sandals more often then Blake Lively. It is an odd finding, but trust me, do a search on these two girls over the net and you’ll see less photos of Blake wearing the sandals.

Honestly, I would have thought it would be the other way around. With Blake’s long legs, she could easily ride on the gladiator trend bandwagon and look good in it. Apparently I was wrong. I guess not all celebrities are going ga-ga over these shoes.

Don’t get me wrong, Blake DOES wear the gladiator shoes, but obviously not as often as Leighton does. I did find a few photos of her wearing these sandals, mostly in flats though, none of the heeled ones.

Leighton Meester however, wears it all, as evidenced by the numerous photos you will find of her wearing both heeled and flat versions of the sandals.

So which are you? A Blake Lively or a Leighton Meester?

If you relate to Blake Lively and prefer wearing the flat version, here are a few suggestions:

If you’re a Leighton Meester however, wearing both heeled and flat gladiator sandals would be your thing so here are a few flat and heeled suggestions:
