How Would You Wear the Jean Paul Gaultier Uma Gladiator Sandal Boots?

Now these are gladiators made for grabbing attention:

Standing tall and proud among all the gladiator footwear styles are these metallic black Jean Paul Gaultier Uma boots (or are these sandals? Bootandals?). They’re knee-high, they zip up in the back, and they have “wings” at the sides. The straps that lace-up at the front are elastic and I have no idea how you’re supposed to adjust them if they’re too tight or too loose.

Anyway, as these are clearly NOT your ordinary gladiator sandals, my question is: how would you wear these Jean Paul Gaultier Uma sandal / boots?

Is it better to keep the rest of your ensemble understated and pair these boots with your plainer clothes? :
