One type of sandal that seems to have an increasing popularity is the Huarache-inspired Twist Strap Sling Back. It isn’t exactly a gladiator sandal, but we are featuring it on this site because we consider it as a close cousin.
If you can’t visualize the sandal I am pertaining to, here’s a picture of a Twist Strap Sling Back:

Fergie Blast, US$94
Look closely and you will realize that it is simply a stripped and tweaked version of the caged gladiator sandal.
The T is still there, but not as apparent because of the numerous and closely arranged twisted straps. And instead of the usual strap that encircles the ankle, it is replaced with a single strap that curves around the heel like a sling.
Now for some reason, this shoe style is sprouting here and there like mushrooms. The one above is a Fergie, but check out these other three Twist Strap Sling Backs from Paris Hilton, Nine West, and BCBGeneration:

Nine West Ebbytide, US$99
BCBGeneration Devon, US$110
It doesn’t take a smart person to realize that these sandals look almost exactly alike, save for very minor differences such as color and platform orientation. Even the prices are within close range.
Such a case of multiplicity can only mean one thing: the twist-strap sling back is hot to have.
Even Fossil came out with a flat and more gladiator-looking version called the Fossil Laurette Hurache:

And check this out, Alexander McQueen came out with his own version of the Twist Strap Sling Back. I am guessing he released these shoes way before the rest did. It is currently on sale for US$498, that’s a huge price cut from its original US$1,154.
