Ginnifer Goodwin’s Strappy Satin Gladiator-Inspired Booties

Ginnifer Goodwin got a lot of flak for the two-sizes-too-big dress she wore at the Calvin Klein Collection & Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) first annual bash for the L.A. Arts Monthly and Art Los Angeles Contemporary last January 28, 2010, and you can clearly see why:

The puffed sheer sleeves and the ruching on the front of the dress overwhelms the actress’s tiny frame. Even if the dress was in Ginnifer’s size, the oversized long necklace she chose to accessorize with doesn’t help the dress’s cause and only draws the eye downward towards the floor.

There is one good thing about that though – our eyes immediately focus on Ginnifer’s gorgeous satin peep toe booties:

These are like the gladiator sandal’s grown up sister. She’s over her tomboy phase and now wears cashmere, silk, and satin clothes. She’s allowed to wear 3-inch heels, stay out late, and get away with wearing revealing clothing. She isn’t afraid to flaunt her female side.

These are strappy gladiator sandals made more stylish, luxurious, and obviously red carpet-ready as demonstrated by Ginnifer here.

Ginnifer’s shoes are the ALDO Mickolick Pumps. Here are other strappy gladiator styles that are just as glam and luxurious as Ginnifer’s:

Robert Clergerie Jeton, on sale, now only $385.00

Elizabeth and James Luella, on sale, now only $263.20

Boutique 9 Jayleen 2, now only $108.00

All these grown-up gladiator shoes are available at Zappos.com.

Carrie Underwood: Glitzy Glamorous at the Clive Davis 2010 Grammy Awards After-Party

One celebrity I would like the press to pay a little more attention to would be Carrie Underwood. For some reason, this southern belle has managed to become one of the best dressed celebrities on the  red carpet. There is a quiet elegance about her which I am beginning to like, and she definitely has good taste when it comes to fashion.

She was seen joining the (2010) Grammy Awards after party (thrown by Clive Davis) wearing a really show-stopping short silver dress that had a lot going on to it.

Carrie Underwood on the Grammy Awards after-party red carpet

She paired the outfit with an unusual set of silver gladiator sandals that had curved straps at the center instead of the usual T, and diagonal straps on the sides instead of the usual horizontal. The outfit was quite busy up close, but for some reason, it didn’t look overdone, nor did it look like she was trying too hard. In fact, she looked quite stunning in the whole attire.

All I can say is this girl definitely knows what style means.

Now going back to the sandal, this one is an interesting pair because it is different. The T-strap isn’t present in the shoe; in place are two curved straps that form circles at the center. The whole effect is definitely much sexier than wearing the usual gladiator sandals.

I found some good look-a-like options you might want to consider if you’re planning to buy a similar pair:

L.A.M.B Zen Sandal, US$301

Steve Madden Hitower, U$S109

MISS SIXTY Indigo Sandal, US$165

Fergie Ferg and Her Collection of Gladiator Sandals

One celebrity who is definitely working it on stage and in the retail arena is Fergie.  Like other business enterprising celebrities, she has ventured into her own line of shoes. Such an endeavor only tells us one thing, this lady loves shoes. And it seems her favorite among all the shoe styles is the gladiator silhouette. Most often than not, we see her in one, whether flat, wedged, or heeled, with straps running all the way up to her ankles.

To show you how crazy in love she is over this shoe style, allow me to illustrate with pictures:

4 Fresh Silhouettes for Gladiator Sandals

Tired of the same ol’ t-straps on gladiators? Have had enough of dealing with so many buckles and straps on sandals? Think gladiator sandals are so last decade?

Then think again. The gladatior sandal continues to be reinvented this 2010, adopting such fashion forward trends like cutouts, motorcycle boots, and even clogs (see it to believe it).

We think the gladiator sandal is fast on its way to becoming a closet mainstay rather than just a trend, especially if it keeps up this chameleon-like change season after season.

Check out these 4 new and fresh silhouettes that the gladiator sandal has taken on for this year:

#1 ANGULAR STRAPS

Guess Shoes Iola

Throwing the t-straps out, the gladiator sandal now shows off its sexy shape. The straps now embrace the foot in such a way that they create flattering – not height-cutting (!) – angles. These Guess Shoes Iola heels in pewter lea are $119.99 at Heels.com.

#2 MOTORCYCLE BOOTS

Ash Lotus Cutout Booties

This shoe actually shows not one but two trends: the motorcycle boot and the extreme wedge. First seen on trendsetters like Mary Kate Olsen and Alexa Chung, the motorcycle wedge will surely be the shoe shape to watch out for this year. The gladiator sandal slips into this new shape with ease. Ash Lotus Cutout Booties are $240.00 at Shopbop.com.

#3 CUTOUTS

Sigerson Morrison Flat Slash Suede Booties

We’ve featured these sandals before in our 2010 trend forecast. And now that it’s 2010, that forecast is now a reality. We’re seeing cutouts in everything from bathing suits to sleeves to the backs of dresses, so why not on gladiator sandals? And judging from these Sigerson Morrison Flat Slash Suede Booties, they look like they were made for each other. The end result is a silhouette that is very now, and we get the strappy look without the actual straps. These sandals are $465.00 at Shopbop.com.

#4 CLOGS

Frye Darcy Peep

The thick leather straps take the place of the rounded toecaps on these clogs, but they are undeniably gladiator-inspired. Clogs are supposedly the dreaded trend to make a comeback this 2010, but if they look as luxurious (and as comfy – they have a cork footbed) as these chunky wooden heels, then maybe it’s not going to be that bad. These Frye Darcy Peep clogs are $218.00 at Zappos.com.

Still think you’ll be sticking with the old gladiator sandals or will you be willing to try out these fresh, new silhouettes? Try ‘em out for size – you never know, you might end up liking them!

Spotted: Anna Paquin in Platform Gladiators During the 2010 SAG Awards

Anna Paquin was seen attending the 2010 Screen Actors Guild Awards last Saturday (January 23), wearing a short printed low-cut dress paired with black gold platform gladiators. The whole get-up was fetchingly sexy, except maybe for the part that the dress was a little inappropriate for the occasion.

Nonetheless, it was quite a dress, and the pair of black gold platform gladiators she wore it with perfectly matched the whole outfit.

Want your own pair of platform glads like Anna’s? Go grab one at either Zappos.com or Shoebuy.com. These online stores offer FREE Shipping to anywhere in the US, and they carry a lot of brands for you to choose from. Plus, they have a lot of merchandise on discount so finding one that fits your budget will not be a problem.

Just remember to keep your choice of platforms at two inches (2”) maximum to avoid the chances of tripping while you walk in the shoes. As for the heel height, the higher the better, as long as you can handle it, of course.

Here are my personal selections:

Promiscuous Charming Sandal, on sale for only US$76 at Zappos.com

Sizzle Athens Sandal, US$49 at Shoebuy.com

Steve Madden Alicce, on sale for only US$96 at Zappos.com
